Meet Adriana

Adriana is one of Inspiring the Future volunteer’s. We asked Adriana a few questions about her experiences volunteering with Inspiring the Future:

How long have you been an Inspiring the future volunteer?

I have been an Inspiring the Future volunteer for four years. I've been fortunate to participate in a number of high school career events in greater Sydney. A highlight was "What's My Line" at the Primary Futures launch in partnership with The Smith Family. Primary students asked five yes/no questions and had to guess our occupations, with an intent of breaking gender stereotypes. It was great to see how engaged the students were.

What made you want to sign up to volunteer with Inspiring the Future?

I love volunteering activities, they do bring me great joy! I also think it is very important for schools, companies and non-profit organisations to interact as much as possible so that we can all learn from each other.

What is it about volunteering with Inspiring the Future that you really enjoy?

I really enjoy being able to share my passion for technology with the students! And I love answering their questions about my professional experience and career journey.

Has your career journey taken the path you imagined it would?

No and that is what makes it interesting! I loved working on projects all over Australia and in Japan, Korea and Singapore.

What is something about your career journey that has surprised you?

That I did not have to 'climb the corporate ladder' to find happiness and contentment in my professional career. I truly enjoy technical challenges and working with my team and contributing to my company.

What is one piece of advice that you would share with young people today?

I think young people are awesome because they are passionate and have a very creative approach to life. My one piece of advice is: believe that you are stronger than what you think you are! You can do hard things and take that first, courageous step.
