Dream Big at Bass High School

Life beyond school...

Schools Industry Partnership, Jennie Payens

"Dream Big" was the mission for the students at Bass High School on Wednesday, 31 March 2021. The Inspiring the Future team led the students on a journey to envisage life beyond school.

The selected students from Year 10, 11 and 12 initially completed employability skill challenges. The student's adaptability, problem solving, communication and teamwork was put to the test, especially with the origami paper cranes! Their effort and participation was absolutely commendable.

The student's motivation continued when they played the stepping stones career game for Andre the Police Officer and Rob the Transport and Logistics professional.

These preliminary activities were the perfect lead up to the industry networking session. Nine industry representatives shared their career stories with small groups of students. Students were fully engaged and you could feel the positivity and encouragement in the room. The wonderful industry representatives provided insights into a diverse range of occupations: Author, Police Officer, Stockbroker, Marketing CEO, Printing Company Managing Director, Manufacturing Business Owner and a Landscape Gardener/Business Owner.

The feedback from the students was wonderful with many quoting the industry representatives on their evaluation forms "stumbling forward is better than standing still" and "follow your heart".

The event was a collaborative effort. Inspiring the Future Australia would like to thank Bass High Schools Transition Advisers – Mona Hamed and Samia Chami for their organisation and enthusiasm, Rhonda Stone from REIP – Department of Education NSW for her leadership and support, the generous and inspiring Industry Volunteers and the wonderful students for being a part of this positive day.
