Inspiring Women event in Liverpool

with AWS in Communities

Schools Industry Partnership, Ashleigh James

On Tuesday the 13th of August 2019, ITF Australia and Amazon Web Services hosted an Inspiring Women event in Liverpool for over 200 female students and their teachers from eight different southwest Sydney secondary schools.

The students interacted informally with 30 female volunteers, most of whom are working in traditionally male-dominated industries and occupations.

The event began with a panel of six volunteer speakers (representing both Academic & VET career pathways) who shared a five-minute summary of who they are, what they do, their journey since leaving school, how they met and managed numerous challenges along the way and provided advice to the students attending.

The Mayor of Liverpool, Wendy Waller, welcomed everyone to Liverpool, shared her personal journey and gave advice on building a successful career as a woman in the workforce.

During the Speed Career Networking activity, the 30 female volunteers rotated around tables of students at eight-minute intervals, sharing their career story and answering their questions.

The event concluded with a networking lunch that allowed the students and volunteers to further interact in an informal way.

Students were inspired by the career stories of each volunteer and their encouraging advice and they walked away with new perspectives on the importance of their education and on career opportunities after leaving school.

Many thanks to everyone who made the event such a success including Liverpool City Council, AWS, participating schools, volunteers, the RIEP program, VET Alumni, SALT, NRL, South West Connect, MWLP and Club Liverpool.  A great partnership effort!
