Guidance – Career Insight Talks

‘Career insight’ talks

Short careers talks or insights normally take between 20 minutes and 1 hour including a Q&A sessions for students to ask the speaker questions.

Format of Careers Fairs

Schools and colleges may also host careers fairs which normally involve 20 – 50 professionals from different sectors, with students moving round in a market place set up. Employers can simply take roll banners and marketing materials, but equally they are free to use their creativity to engage with pupils via competitions, quizzes and ‘have a go’ activities. There are no strict rules on format.

Speed Career Networking

Schools and colleges may also invite volunteers to take place in a ‘Career Speed Networking’ activity. This usually involved up to 10 volunteers rotating around tables of between 2 and 10 young people, answering questions from young people about their job, career and the educational route that they took.
